Buying scales calibrated by the supplier is a good idea to ensure correct weight readings.

Today we were getting a customers order ready for despatch and it struck me how important it is to buy from suppliers who calibrate scales before they are despatched (Scalesmart carries this out as standard).

In this picture you can clearly see two scales with 20kg weights placed on them. The scale on the left was fresh out of the box and tested, the error shown is plus 18g, the scale on the right has been calibrated using our traceable calibration weights.

Whilst we aim to keep our prices low it is imperative that scales are tested and calibrated to remove errors such as these, these costs are taken into account.

Please do not confuse a calibration certificate with a standard calibration, the certificate provides you with detailed results and traceability back to national standards.

Historically ATEX weighing equipment was a lot more expensive than standard area weighing scales. The technology to protect the area from risk of explosion often multiplied the costs of basic scales.

Scalesmart supply a wide range of ATEX weighing scales, from small bench scales used in labs and production lines to large platforms and vessel applications.

Before looking at ATEX scales its best to establish what Zone rating your area has. Is it at risk from Gas or Dust, is the risk always present of sometimes present?

The different zoning classifications are determined by your business needs, Scalesmart do not rate your zone for you.

Usually Zone 1 rated scales are used in areas where a risk is always present, the price of these scales are typically more expensive than Zone 2 due to a special power supply and extra protection.

Scalesmart supply a range of ATEX rated equipment from Bizerba, Dini Argeo, GSE Inc and Sartorius, as an independent weighing scale company we source the best scales available within your budget. You are not fixed to one set brand and have to work within the confines of the price list.

As manufacturers we can design and fabricate simple or intricate weighing scales for your exact requirements, offering full flexibility means you get the scale you need, not what’s off the shelf.

For advice about different types of ATEX weighing scales and the range that we offer then please do not hesitate to call us on 0800-915-4201 and one of our specialist weighing experts will be available to take your call.

We have worked on a product that allows us to print basic labels on to the Zebra LP2824 label printer. This low cost unit has few options but the end result is good enough for most customers.

We have recently taken an order for 12 units, the scales are placed on the production line and allow the operator to print a basic label that is applied to a box of items.

Depending on what scale is chosen varies the results given, basic weighing scales can be made to produce the label on the left. Labels can also be printed with basic counting information as shown on the right.

We can also insert 4 lines of customer information as seen at the top of each label.

Basic scales start at £150.00 for a 30-150kg scale, add to that the printer at £299.00. It works out as a very cheap option.

If you require a label printing scale then please call us on 0800-915-4201

Part of Black & Deckers process required them to inject a liquid into their machines when moulding products. Their current system didn’t give them any feedback as to how empty or full the canisters were. This led to the process being stopped and valuable time wasted when the vessels became empty. The manufacturing process was delayed by empty tanks as air was injected instead of the compound, this meant clearing the system adding to the time wasted.

Our solution was to fit six weighing scales under each vessel that operated an all in one beacon and siren via relay setpoints. The relays were set a pre-determined value that tripped the relays and set off the beacon and sirens alerting the operator to a vessel that was becoming close to empty,

Our solution has saved Black & Decker valuable time and money for a small initial capital outlay.

We are used to developing simple solutions to weighing scale problems.

The system comprised of the following:
6 x Ohaus Defender 5000 Indicator with DC relay output board
6 x Ohaus Defender 3000 100kg platform
6 x Flashtone red base with red xenon lens

CE marking is a mandatory conformity mark that should appear on all scales

No related posts.

“The CE marking (also known as CE mark) is a mandatory conformity mark on many products placed on the single market in the European Economic Area (EEA). The CE marking certifies that a product has met EU consumer safety, health or environmental requirements.”

The above is an excerpt regarding CE marking. With the prices of scales plummeting to new depths manufacturers and importers are cutting corners by offering scales that do not carry this mandatory mark.

Manufacturers are getting clever and using their own CE mark as a way of claiming the device is CE marked, it isn’t. There is subtle difference that becomes clear when you compare the EU CE mark and the CE mark from China, which incidentally stands for China Export. See image below for the difference.

EU CE Mark

Chinese Export CE logo

Selling products into the UK that do not carry the EU CE mark is illegal and can be dangerous.

Before you buy your next scale make sure that it has an EU certificate of conformity, especially if the scale is an unbranded cheap product. Employers will be liable for these unmarked products in the event of any employee injuries arising from said electrical equipment.

If corners have been cut on paper work where else have they been cut?

With ever increasing competition within the weighing industry, it was deemed a new website was necessary to increase our presence on line within the UK marketplace. The new site has many more features including accurate shipping estimates for customers and a higher level of interaction. We hope to implement a customer support and RMA system as well to increase our our sales performance.

The new Scalesmart website has also seen a significant increase in product range, for example we now offer the entire Seca medical scale range with a discount of 10% off list price, we now supply Kern medical scales as well.

Lab balances from the major manufacturers such as AnD Instruments, Ohaus and Kern have been added to the ever increasing portfolio of products.

We have kept to our company ethos of selling brand recognised weighing scales at discounted prices and not selling unserviceable or unbranded scales.

Smoke and Mirrors?
