Linking weighing scales to a PLC

We were recently asked to develop a solution for a client who required a platform scale linked to a PLC.

Linking weighing scales to PLC’s is actually very easy with a product called the FAA-25 Analogue Amplifier. The load cell amplifier takes the signal from load cells and turns it into a 4-20ma or 0-10v output allowing easy integration into a PLC.

This particular system saw vessels of glue being placed onto small 60kg bench scales. The PLC controlled the speed and delivery of the glue onto the product by using information from the weighing scale. The PLC also stopped the system before the vessels ran out of glue, problems arose if an empty vessel pumped air into the delivery system.

Our customer was delighted with his 8 units, that were also mounted onto bespoke mobile trolleys. By using a simple load cell amplifier we were able to deliver a low cost and low maintenance weighing scale to the customer.

The FAA25 from Flintec has an integral DIN rail mount making it perfect for PLC’s. The supply voltage is a standard 24volts DC. The unit can also be supplied with twop setpoints and a RS232 or RS485 output.
